As part of Diamond Hill Elementary School’s Green Step School commitment to Protect Outdoor Air Quality, our fifth-grade students engaged in a hands-on environmental stewardship activity by planting a red maple tree on campus. This meaningful project was completed in partnership with Lucy, our local Clemson Extension 4-H agent, who guided students in learning how trees improve air quality, reduce pollution, and support healthy ecosystems. Students also explored the scientific concept that plants obtain the materials they need for growth primarily from air and water. Through this experience, students connected classroom instruction to real-world application while taking responsibility for environmental care and promoting cleaner air for our school and community.
